we begin with the giants and debra villalon in san francisco. >> reporter: well this has been such an embarrassing and lopsided loss that fans started deserting the ballpark an hour ago. now they're pouring out deflated after arriving for game two optimistic. high in center field the man with his fingers on the pulse of the game. >> i do feel better energy in the crowd actually. >> reporter: energy, spilling over perhaps from the 49ers big romp at home tonight. >> get some mojo for the giants, let's go baby, play offs. >> reporter: fans who went to both games had to bask in it. >> fantastic. it doesn't get any better, baseball, niners doing their thing. we're on, we're on. >> reporter: but not good enough. fans on both sides of the bay now grasp the strength of their opponent. >> that was a strong team. so, we can do it. we have our faith but it's

going to be kind of hard. >> reporter: fans who saw the last bay bridge series and were tantalized by visions of another are just focused now on survival. >> the only good thing about it is both teams are real young. we have a lot of young players. so there's always next year. >> reporter: always next year? too soon for that says the giant's boss. >> you don't worry. you just go inning by inning, pitch by pitch. we get through the night and then get cincinnati. >> reporter: and tuesday the screaming fans will be cincinnati's home advantage. >> they did so well on the road this year that, i think they can do it. >> reporter: well that's a tall order but the orange october hangs in the balance. both bay area teams a game away from elimination but the a's get to try to battle back at

home while the giant's have to head for hostile territory. so it's no wonder fans are wondering if they should start crying in their rally toweling. we're live in san francisco, debora villalon. >> this is a live picture of the embarcadero center. the embarcadero high rise are lit up in support of the hometown team during the play offs. they may have been outnumbered today, the plan to show off in force for game three at the coliseum on tuesday. >> what are the two guys going to do home today? >> get a home run. >> reporter: this year's oakland a's team is something new. >> besides being going, this is like a fairy tale story.

these guys are amazing. they're so young they don't know what they can't do. that's why this year is so special. i mean, not just in terms of the years some of these guys are having as players, but just in the innocence. you know it's kind of like your first love. >> we get the first win hopefully and take it back home and win it in front of their fans. >> reporter: a's fans were disadvantaged by the tiger nation. but comerica park is not intimidated. >> it's not a hostile environment. it's a wonderful experience. and i do get loud. >> reporter: a's fans kept it loud. a's must win tuesday but wednesday and thursday as well. it sounds like a real high mountain to climb but a's

manager melvin will remind his players they won the last six just to get into the division play offs. our coverage of the play offs continues tonight. mark ibanez will join us live from at&t park with player reaction coming up a little later in sports wrap. the blue angels wrapped up their air show with the usual jaw dropping stunts. flying f18 hornets, the blue angels flu through the sky. they performed in very slow crowd pleasing altitudes. anyone who drove into the city today likely spent a lot of time in traffic.

ktvu's christien kafton joins us live from the city on just how people got around. >> reporter: you can see giant fans here making their way from at&t park. tonight's game mark it is end of a wild weekend making its way in and around town. >> the platform is very crowded, still downstairs. >> reporter: one look at the packed platforms and it was easy to see how b.a.r.t. broke its weekend ridership with 3,000 passengers. regular drivers said the trains were as crushed as any rush hour. >> coming in was a piece of cake. it was fine, nothing i can't handle. >> reporter: this is what those b.a.r.t. riders were hoping to avoid, back ups coming in and going outs of san francisco. >> it's crazy right now. i'm going to drive by the giant's game to see what's going on.

>> reporter: on public transit. muni transits were packed. surprising even seasoned veterans. >> the busiest i've ever seen it. >> reporter: passengers say despite the tight conditions they managed to get where they needed to go when they needed to get there. >> it's a smooth ride. i can say that. and really crowded. >> reporter: some visitors opted for people power to get around town. >> we took muni just over here then we decided to hop on to make it easier we're going over to the ballpark. >> reporter: coming back to our live shot we're taking a look at the bay bridge. we're expecting traffic to hit the bay bridge as people leave the giants game. we're on the embarcadero we're starting to see an increase in traffic. you can see the cars leaving the game. clearly a lot of that activity surrounding getting in and out of town still going on. this weekend's big crowds in the city mean big money. coming up, why the timing couldn't be more perfect for some businesses.

our coverage continues online at ktvu.com. click on the photos tab where you will find slide shows from this weekend's events. new video tonight of a two alarm fire at a department complex in cupertino that left eight people without a place to live. the fire was reported at the village green apartments on homestead near noranda drive. the university where the fire started suffered major damage. no one was hurt and there is no word yet how the fire started. a body wrapped in material was found inside a car. police say someone noticed the body in the vehicle parked on richie street near olive around 5:00 and called 911. investigators have not released if the body was a man or woman but it appears the car had been parked in the area for more than a day.

a man died in a drowning accident. the 23-year-old victim has been identified as kenneth cooper of fairfield. cooper and his uncle were fishing when a sand bar suddenly gave way. cooper was swept downstream. he was pronounced dead at the hospital. san francisco police are investigating a double shooting that left one man dead it happened at around 2:40 this morning near third and mission streets. officers found two men in a car both suffering gunshot wounds. one man died at the scene while the other was hospitalized with what are said to be nonlife threatening injuries. the shooter left in a ford possibly with front end damage. authorities are still searching for a would be car thief. a u.s. park police officer says tried to run him over. it happened around 6:30 last night in the precidio. san francisco police say the officers spotted a man trying to steal a car and tried to stop him. investigators say the man jumped into his own car and

tried to hit the parked police officer. the officer opened fire but there's no word if the suspect was wounded. police in hercules continued to search for a crucial clue in a recent rare homicide. on friday night, suzy goh was found dead in her home. the family's car was also missing from the garage. they continue tonight to look for that 2011 blue subaru outback with idaho license plate. anyone with information is asked to call hercules police. the california highway patrol is trying to determine what caused a deadly accident today in pleasanton. it happened around 7:45 this morning at the sunol boulevard off ramp and i-680. a driver swerved off the road and crashed into a ditch. one person was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. there's no word on any other injuries. pg & e crews worked through the day to try to restore electricity to thousands of customers in hayward after a

driver took out a power pole. a female driver took out the pole this morning. live power lines then fell on to homes and cars. no one was hurt. at last word all by 66 customers had their power back. pg & e says it's supposed to have electricity back on for those customers by mid-night. video emerges as do new accusations over yesterday's occupy demonstration in san francisco. the conflicting stories from protesters and police. president obama back in california looking for campaign cash. the high profile bay area figures expected at tomorrow's event in san francisco. as gas prices hit another record high. governor brown is stepping in. what he's asking the state to do to help lower prices at the pump.

this at a time when there are typically production surges if california switches to winter gasoline blend. that's why mark is glad he can fill his motorcycle up for less than $20. >> i only use the bike when necessary. >> reporter: experts say there will be relief at the pump. they expect gas prices to go down sometime in the next week. in oakland, ann rubin, ktvu news. governor jerry brown directed the resource board to increase the state's gas supply in an effort to try to bring prices down. he told the panel, the switch to winter gas. typically that type of gas is not sold until after october 31st. it's better for air quality during the smog season. preparing to take legal action. the big network accused shooter

linked to a deadly outbreak of fungal meningitis is recalling all of its products. the recall was taken out of an abundance of caution. the fda has previously told health professionals not to use any products distributed by the center. as of today the centers for disease control and prevention says there are 91 confirmed cases of the rare form of meningitis an seven deaths none of those cases was in california. it is a food fight that you, california consumers will settle in the upcoming election. in the ktvu special report, we look at the proposition that could bring changes to your supermarket. it's a busy weekend in san francisco which means something for everyone especially local businesses.

requiring labels on genetically modified foods will make people think they are not healthy. >> by putting a scary sounding label on food products giving people the impression that the foods are somehow unsafe when they are simply not true. >> this technology has been tested more than anything. >> reporter: she says years of research has deemed the fda and others to deem the foods safe. >> go's are probably safer than any food on the system. there should be almost zero cause of concerns that any problems will arise after. >> reporter: but supporters of the gmo label say the long term health impacts are unclear and that research outside the u.s. shows a potential for health problems including an increased risk of allergies.

>> there's so much we don't know. >> reporter: genetically engineered foods have been on the shelves since 1974. but not all foods are inclued under prop 37. for example soy milk would need a label. but cow milk and dairy products would not. all meats and alcoholic beverages are excluded. >> why exempt 3/ -- 2/3 of the foods people eat every day. >> supporters disagree and point out that 50 countries including japan, australia, russia and the eu have either banned or labeled gmos. if approved california will be the first state in the nation to require the labels. california's recycling program is reportedly losing as much adds $200 million a year to fraud.

the los angeles times reports that truckloads of recycling come into california. and that the state pays the refunds even though it never got the deposit. also some recycling programs collect on the same containers multiple times. governor brown signed a law last month to help stop the fraud. the san francisco board of supervisors is scheduled to decide the fate of suspended sheriff ross mirkarimi this week. the board is expected to decide tuesday on whether mirkarimi should keep his job. there are 11 members on the board. nine of them must vote against mirkarimi in order to permanently remove him from office. shoppers in san francisco can aim for a new target this week after hiring about 300 people. the new target store opens wednesday downtown. called city target it will take up the entire second floor of

the complex. it's smaller than other targets, one of eight urban style stores planned across the country and it'll open earlier than other locations at 7:00 a.m. to give commuters a chance to shop before work. the big weekend in san francisco means big money for retailers. the crowds came just in time for some businesses. >> reporter: some say it's one of the busiest weekends in san francisco history. down by the water, america's cup and a performance by the blue angels. >> we just brought a lot of people into the city. we're fortunate to be close to the dock where the sailors keep their ships. >> definitely our season finale into the summer. >> reporter: christopher norway driving a petty cart. he said this weekend he raked in double to triple the cash. with so many people around and transportation needed. >> this is our last big harrah for the year.

>> reporter: traffic jams may have been upsetting to people trying to get around town. but the money all these events are bringing into the city are a huge boost. >> i love that we have so many people here and i think it's wonderful to have so much revenue for the day. >> reporter: like the castro street fair which had tons of food and lots of people out enjoying the weather. across town you have both hometown teams in action. >> definitely a good buzz about the city sports wise. even from the a's this morning to the giants across the street. we were packed for that yesterday. >> reporter: they were busy once again tonight, let's not forget the hardly strictly bluegrass festival was also tonight capping off an extremely busy. david stevenson. blasting off into the history books. the first step into a new era.

week and things could change a little bit. a bit nervous. the weather thankfully cooperated just fine. we still have cloudy skies, a look at the cruise ship here. some clouds will increase as we head into the overnight hours especially in the overnight hours. lots of clear skies but temperatures are dropping. you can see already in the lower 50s. santa rosa and napa around 53 to 55. temperatures from this afternoon. they range from the right around the lower 60s coast side warmest locations inland. and the mid- to upper 70s. remember just last tuesday we had those readings in the upper 90s to over 100 degrees. the cooler temperatures are here to stay with no major heat in the forecast. for tonight we do have this, mostly clear skies, a bit of a breeze out there. tomorrow some morning cloud cover, it'll be mostly sunny. wednesday we do bring in a chance of a few showers between now and sunrise.

as temperatures drop off overnight in the inland valleys especially up in the north bay. fog will be forming so visibilities could be coming down once again about a half mile out toward santa rosa, napa and san helena. here's a look at the projected numbers, pretty chilly when you wake up you can see 40s for santa rosa, napa 63 degrees. with at least party cloudy skies and patchy dense fog out there. not much change for tomorrow. there's a weather system in the pacific it will stay offshore for tomorrow. here's the temperature change from the 50s to the 70s. 60 to right around 70 degrees with partly sunny skies. this system is a very slow mover. you can see the eventual track. tuesday we bring in a chance of a slight shower. probably better bet next tuesday morning. this has been changing, so we have to keep an eye on this as we approach tuesday into wednesday. here's our forecast model showing you this, and it is

showing you some of the cloud cover sometime tomorrow morning. this green contour links up with the 60s. warmest locations approaching the lower 70s. these numbers coming down a few degrees from tomorrow's highs. your forecast temperatures, santa rosa 69. no major heat. those readings pretty comfortable. low to mid-70s. san jose will go 71. san francisco forecast high right around 62 degrees. here is a look ahead. your five day forecast if things to change into tuesday. there is that light chance of a sprinkle or light shower. looks like the bulk of the shower activity remains offshore. possibly another system swings in by friday that cloud cover and bring in possibly a few more sprinkles. for the upcoming weekend the cloud cover doesn't move out. especially for sunday and that is when temperatures could be warming back up. but the forecast, still has to iron out a few more details.

hundreds of swimmers hit the pool at mills college in oakland to raise money for women battling cancer. friends, family and supporters cheered them on. the women's cancer research center hosted its swim a mile fund riser for their 17th year in a row. swimmers lasted several laps if not several hundred miles. >> many of women or men are cancer survivors, people being treated for cancer or supporting a loved one. >> organizers say money raised surpassed last year's. the center provides therapy and health care for cancer patients. coming up next, we hear from the a's as they stumble in detroit. >> more from san francisco after the giant's drop game two against the reds, at least the
